Real-World Applications

How would you use this knowledge outside of picking up BBs?

One day you may become an engineer and be asked to design a huge electromagnet that picks up scrap metal or junk cars. But beyond that, electromagnets are used in everyday life. They can be found in doorbells, in security systems, in televisions, in loudspeakers, and the list goes on.

Consider this assignment:

You are working at your summer job, cleaning up a job site for a house builder. Now that you know how to make an electromagnet, your assignment is to make a larger one that you could use to pick up nails and tacks. Good luck, and go save some tires!
